Journey to health and wellness…

What does ‘Healthy’ look like?

For me health is not just about absence of illness or disease it is about so much more, like striving for and living with optimal health and fitness.

It is about ensuring we have a healthy immune system to prevent us from contracting infections or fight them off effectively. It is about supporting our bone and muscle function so we can exercise or participate in sport as we choose and enjoy hill walking as retirees. It is about nourishing our minds so we can continue to reach work goals and look forward to staying actively engaged in work and social activites as we age. It is about being in tune with our natural circadian rhythm to live in harmony with the natural sleep wake cycle and nature.

What is Nutritional Therapy?

A Nutritional Therapist has completed four years of science based studies to achieve their qualification. We work following the functional medicine model, which endeavours to identify root causes of health issues. It is like throwing all the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle out, identifying the key pieces before bringing all the pieces together again to complete the puzzle. Clients are offered a personal therapeutic plan and supported in making changes to diet and lifestyle to help reach their personal goals. We may recommend supplements to bridge nutritional gaps and insufficiencies. We know where and when to use scientifically researched brands and potent extracts safely. We have been trained to recognise when diagnostic testing may be an effective tool to help give a more targeted approach to the process.

A little about me!

I began my career in legal/finance. I left to go on maternity leave and somehow never returned! Three daughters and one son later saw me settled into enjoying life as mother and homemaker. During this time I trained in holistic massage and became an infant massage instructor. I taught mums this lovely skill for eight years. I loved being part of this special time in their lives and continued to develop my interest and knowledge about physical well-being. I took the plunge back into education and studied for four years with the Institute of Health Sciences to gain my Diploma in Nutritional Therapy. I have loved every minute of learning and my passion has been fuelled by a solid and rigorous education. I continue to embrace the emerging developments and trends and enjoy taking part in continued professional development. I am a member of the Nutritional Therapists of Ireland, the professional body who support and govern Nutritional Therapists. Three areas where I am particularly excited about sharing, are the Gut Microbiome, the Circadian Rhythm and Medicinal Mushrooms. These and many more aspects of nutritional therapy are central parts of my practice.

Working in this area, I am delighted to be associated with the wonderful world of functional medicine and all the inspiring prople who are part of it.

My Vision for my Clients….

To leave with a sense of empowerment and self-accountability over their own health. To understand the many therapeutic benefits of food and trust their natural healing abilities. To understand the ebb and flow of hormones and embrace the natural circadian rhythm. To nourish their bodies and minds through challenging life stages. To help build resilliance for longevity and all that life may throw their way. Finally, to flourish and live a happy healthy life or Saol Sona!

I cannot recommend Eilis enough! I am so grateful to Eilis for the improvements I have seen in my health and fitness. I came to Eilis with stomach discomfort, a suspected dairy intolerance, irregular periods, low energy, hay fever and asthma. She has helped me so much with each of these and I have even seen a huge improvement in my skin. She has a vast amount of nutritional knowledge and explains the reason for each of her recommendations and supplements. Eilis is extremely helpful and provides realistic lifestyle tips and healthy recipes which has made it easy to stick to her plans.
